Educators in high-needs schools with diverse student populations are often asked to familiarize themselves with their students' and families' cultures. But how often do we examine our own cultural programming? All human beings are programmed by the hidden rules and cultural perspectives of our upbringing. When we understand our own programming, we can see our students more clearly and make sounder decisions for the young people who are entrusted to our leadership in schools.
